Farm Door Window (Restoration & Transformation)
Breathing New Life into an Abandoned Farm Door
Andy and I first met while he was restoring sash window frames for a friend. When he discovered my expertise, he immediately saw the potential of pairing his joinery skills with the art of stained glass—a combination that would make his work stand out.
Andy completed a 7-day residential course, where he spent 80 hours restoring and transforming this abandoned farm door window under my guidance. For a first piece, it's remarkable—standing over a meter tall and showcasing real craftsmanship and vision!
Technique:
Traditional lead came and stained glass methods.
Dimensions:
Over 1 meter tall, custom-fitted to the reclaimed door frame.
Glass Types:
Textured cathedral glass, fleckled panes for light diffusion, and hand-blown opalescent pieces.
Color Palette:
Deep blues, warm ambers, and soft greens chosen to echo countryside tones while complimenting the rustic wood.
Special Touches:
Custom bevels and jewel accents catch the light throughout the day; fleckled glass creates beautiful light patterns.
Installation:
Built directly into the farm door, it now serves as a striking statement piece.
“I’m just back from the Pyrénées, where I spent an amazing week with David and his wife Michelle learning all about stained glass windows. I loved it so much I’m leaving a 5 star (+) review! It’s my first ever review and I can’t let this opportunity pass without endorsing David and his training. His workshop is well equipped, his patience is endless and his enthusiasm is catching. So, If you’re considering having a go, I’d stop searching and book a week with this man. Thank you David and Michelle for making my week incredible!”
